Why I object to Halal

halal%20logo.jpg FINDING a supermarket that cares about animal welfare is becoming more and more difficult.

Not so long ago, Tesco was (allegedly) exposed for not giving a damn about pigs reared in cruel factory-farmed conditions, and more recently it were criticised for selling live turtles in its stores in China.

In other words, capitalising on profits made from animal misery.

I don't shop at Tesco anymore, and I rarely shop at Sainsbury's, so Asda is where I spend a large amount of money every week.

halal%20shirt.jpg Now I hear that Asda intends selling halal meat in its Birmingham stores to cater for the “majority” Muslims in that area.

Animals killed for this meat are not even pre-stunned. They literally have their throats cut whilst fully conscious.

It's absolutely horrible that Asda is more concerned with profit than respecting the lives of any unfortunate animals that get caught up in this vile trade.

I know I'm not alone in being fed up with the way successive governments constantly ignore our calls for halal to be banned and for more humane treatment of animals.

I can only assume they ignore us because they are either too afraid to speak out or because they want the votes.

Whichever it is, Labour will struggle to get many animal welfare voters out next time round.

As for Asda, well, I won't be shopping there anymore.

In fact I think I can feel a demo coming on.

I would like to add to my blog, that animals killed for halal meat suffer horrifically. They experience awful fear and terrible pain, plus they don't die quickly. Any excuse given by Asda that they are just giving people what they want is outrageous. There is no excuse for this kind of evil wickedness.

I highly respect ms judi hewitt & the guts she has to speak up for more vulnerable life than one's own. My faith makes it very clear that we are commisioned of God to be the guardian species: the strong protecting the weak. e.g: the good shepherd prepared to lay down his/her life for often wayward sheep.

And such a message needs to be instilled in to the minds of youngsters at school & in the home. It would solve the appalling daily state of teenage thuggery in the uk today. Sadly, there are no gce's awarded for virtuous conduct. On the contrary we have adulation given to those who can 'walk over' others considered not so bright. They call it competitiveness!

animals are crammed in batteries &, not unexpectadly, children are more & more being brought up communaly in impersonal nurseries akin to batteries!

And, as for politicians, they are the most spineless breed I've yet to come across. in fact they are as insipid as the average priest who is as far removed from a prophet as the moon is from cheese!

then thank God a million for the likes of judi hewitt of rhyl

I am in total agreement with Judi concerning the cruel ritual of halal slaughter without stunning first .There is no excuse for the government to allow any cruelty whether for religious purposes or cultural ideology. We should by now be more civilized in our treatment of our fellow creatures on this earth for as humans we know so much more about them . They are sentient beings with a nervous system who feel stress and fear but we dismiss these things as having no relevance when it comes to habitual eating and profit. As Tolstoy said ,"Until cruelty is removed from the dinner plate we will never be civilized ",he was a vegetarian by the way .The point is there is no way that any society should condone cruel killing of either humans or animals .

on the subject of weak politicians, if the National Front where to cal itself a religion, would politicians give in to them in order to get their Votes?
